NSCDC officer and his brother accused of brutalising a grandmother and her daughter (graphic photos)

An NSCDC officer has been accused of teaming up with his brother to brutalize a grandmother and her daughter in Abuja. The officer, identified as Mr Amaechi Anichebe, allegedly brutalized a middle-aged woman named Mrs Funmilayo Obatoke and her mother Mrs Dorcas Obatoke. Mr Anichebe is said to be neighbours with the grandmother and her daughter in Dogongada village in Lokogoma, Abuja.  According to Sterling Law Centre, Mr Anichebe went to the women's house with his brother on April 12 and asked them to follow him. The women, who already had a minor disagreement with Mr Anichebe prior to that day, refused to follow him outside, so he and his brother allegedly beat them up. They also allegedly used stones and bottles on them while beating them, leaving the women bleeding from deep cuts. We may increase fares over interstate travel COVID-19 guidelines - NURTW says

The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has said it might be increasing its fares due to the new guidelines issued by the federal government on interstate travel. Kabiru Yau, NURTW acting general secretary, said this while reacting to the lifting of the ban on interstate travels by the Federal government. The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 on Monday, June 29 announced that interstate travel will commence from July 1st. The National   Coordinator of the taskforce, Aliyu Sani, said Interstate travel   must be done before the 10pm to 4am national curfew and that vehicles must only carry fifty percent of their capacity.  Reacting to the new guidelines, Yalu said  “We thank the federal government for lifting the ban. El-Rufai's sons tackle Atiku after his son dropped a shade for their father

Governor Nasir El-Rufai's sons, Bashir and Bello took a swipe at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar after one of his sons, Mustapha dropped a shade for their father.  Atiku's son, Mustapha who reacted to a report of El-Rufai advising parents to teach their children how to respect women from childhood to curb rape, described the Kaduna Governor's comment as an "irony".  Bashir El-Rufai who reacted to Mustapha's tweet, wrote;  When his father @atiku speaks of corruption its the same irony that confounds us Bello El-Rufai on the other hand wrote;  Bash the discussion was on respect for women, not Gay rights or corruption. Ondo state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu tests positive for Coronavirus

Governor Rotimi Akeredelo, has tested positive for the novel Coronavirus. The 63-year-old Ondo state governor announced this at a press conference in Akure, the state capital today June 30. ''I had malaria a few days ago and was treated. I did get over it and as at the time we had our party NEC and my colleagues called on me, I spoke with one of them who felt that malaria shouldn't be treated lightly but that I should go ahead and have a test for COVID19. The result come out today June 30 and I tested positive.  I am asymptommatic. I am not feeling sick nor feeling hot in anyway but my doctors have decided I should take the normal treatment and self isolate. I beleieve that supervised home management will be ideal for me for now and so from now I will be isolated and go on with the supervised home management'' he said  Ondo state currently has 276 confirmed cases of COVID-19. 

Mother of two stabbed to death by suspected armed robbers in Imo.

A married mother of two, Uchechi Ogoke, was stabbed to death while her two children were injured by suspected armed robbers in Ihitte Uboma local government area in Imo state today June 30. According to an eyewitness who sent the story to LIB, the woman's husband is based in Malaysia. In the early hours of today, neighbors woke up to see the woman in a pool of her own blood while her two kids and the house help were injured. The eyewitness said the unidentified persons also took away her ATM card. The police were invited and her body has been evacuated and deposited in the mortuary. The spokesperson of the state police command, SP Orlando Ikeokwu, confirmed the incident to LIB and said an investigation into the incident has commenced. ICPC declares former staff wanted for demanding and receiving gratification

A former staff of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Gloria Obioma Elih has been declared wanted for fraudulent practices.  Elih was accused of allegedly demanding and receiving gratification from officials of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources who were being investigated. It was further learnt that she was declared wanted because all efforts to serve her and procure her attendance in court have proved abortive. Festus Keyamo spotted having a shouting match with lawmakers over NDE recruitment

Festus Keyamo, Minister of State for Labour and Employment was quizzed by lawmakers over the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) recruitment today June 30, and was spotted in a video having a shouting match with them.  One of the lawmakers was heard telling the Minister that they want to ensure his efficiency and also make sure he is doing the right thing.  However when the lawmaker said that lawmakers also have the constitutional responsibilty of exposing corruption, Keyamo fired back by saying "how can you expose corruption without the cameras".  Before Festus Keyamo was asked to leave, the lawmaker said repeatedly "this is not a place to grandstand".  Here is the video below;  This is coming after Festus Keyamo alleged that some politicians in the country are trying to blackmail him and also hijack recruitment into federal government's Special Public Works (SPW) Programme.

Donald Trump has threatened protesters who threw paint on a George Washington statue in New York with “10 years in prison”  This comes after two men were seen in surveillance footage released on Monday hurling red paint at two statues of George Washington in Washington Square Park.  George Washington served as the first president of the United States from 1789 to 1797. Reacting on Twitter this afternoon, President Trump threatened the suspects with 10-year prison sentences and asked the two unidentified men to turn themselves in. He wrote: “We are tracking down the two Anarchists who threw paint on the magnificent George Washington Statue in Manhattan. Babatunde Oyerinde Abidoun a.k.a. Kashy, said to be the owner of a record label 'CashNation Ent. Ltd' has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over his alleged involvement in internet fraud.  The suspect who shuttles between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and allegedly uses the proceeds of his fraudulent activities to fund his lavish lifestyle, was arrested at his residence in Lekki Conservative Estate in Lagos following intelligence gathered overtime about his suspicious lifestyle. According to the anti-graft agency, investigations linked his fraudulent activities to his domestic staff, Thomas Aliu Akwu who confessed to having different accounts domiciled in UBA, Ecobank, GTB, Zenith Bank and FCMB and also receiving money for his boss through the accounts.

Former French prime minister, François Fillon and his wife sentenced to jail for embezzling public funds

Former French prime minister, François Fillon and his Welsh wife, Penelope, were sentenced to jail on Monday for embezzling public funds as part of the “fake job” scandal.  A French court  found Francois guilty of charges of creating a fake job for his wife, using taxpayer money. The 66- year-old was accused of creating a position that paid his wife over €1 million ($1.13 million) in public funds, a charge that cost him his 2017 presidential bid. Fillon's wife, Penelope, was also found guilty of being complicit in the case. He was additionally accused of getting the millionaire owner of a literary magazine to pay his wife €135,000 for "consulting work."  Mr. Fillon was sentenced to five years in prison, three of which were suspended, as well as a €375,000 fine. Notorious car thief nabbed by police

A 45-year-old notorious car thief identified as Baba Aliyu has been arrested for stealing a Toyota Camry with registration number RSH 379 AP.  The suspect who lives at Lambata area of Gurara Local Government Area of Niger state reportedly stole the car at Wuse area of FCT.  A police patrol team attached to Gawu Babangida division intercepted the Toyota Camry vehicle following a tip-off.  The command's spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun said in a statement on Monday;  “The driver refused to stop and the patrol team gave the vehicle a hot chase, as a result, the driver abandoned the vehicle at Lambata and took to his heels. ” Policemen chased the suspect and shot him on the leg before he could be arrested” The suspect who was rushed to the hospital for treatment would be charged to court after investigation has been concluded.

Legendary Nigerian guitarist, Berkley Ike Jones of the defunct BLO is dead. Berkeley Ike Jones died weeks to his 72nd birthday. He died last night, June 28, in Asaba where he went for a job. Ike first appeared on the Nigerian music scene in the mid-1960s, as the drummer in the Port Harcourt-based teen pop group The Figures. In 1970, at the end of the Nigerian civil war, he signed on as lead guitarist in the rock n’ soul band The Funkees, where his adventurous guitar lines got him noticed by talent scouts who instantly whisked him off to Lagos and installed him in the high profile rock group The Clusters. The Clusters soon morphed into the Afro Collection under the leadership of Tee Mac Iseli, and then into SALT under Ginger Baker. Eventually the group splintered, giving birth to Nigeria’s first afro-rock power trio BLO–Berkley Ike Jones, Laolu Akins, and Mike Gbenga Odumosu. BLO was the rave in the 70s and early 80s. Iran issues arrest warrant for Trump over the murder of top Iranian general, Qassem Soleimani; asks Interpol to help

Iran has issued an arrest warrant and asked Interpol for help in detaining US President Donald Trump and dozens of others over the drone strike that killed a top Iranian general in Baghdad. Tehran prosecutor Ali Alqasimehr said on Monday, June 29, that Trump and more than 30 others who Iran accuses of involvement in the January 3 strike that killed General Qassem Soleimani face "murder and terrorism charges", the semi-official ISNA news agency reported. Apart from Trump's name, Alqasimehr did not identify the other suspects. He stressed that Iran would continue to pursue Trump's prosecution even after his presidency ends. Alqasimehr also was quoted as saying that Iran requested a "red notice" be put out for Trump and the others, which represents the highest level arrest request issued by Interpol. Coty has agreed to buy a 20 percent stake in Kim Kardashian West’s make-up brand KKW for $200m, just months after the American multinational beauty company closed a $600m deal with her sister, Kylie Jenner.  According to the Financial Times, the deal values Kim's cosmetics company at $1bn, slightly lower than the $1.2 billion valuations Coty put on West's half-sister Kylie Jenner's business when it bought a 51 percent stake last year.  By buying only a minority stake in KKW this time, Coty does have the option to later acquire a majority stake in KKW, said one of the people familiar with the deal terms.  Simona Cattaneo, president of Coty luxury brands, said the deal would help accelerate changes at the company: “Coty is committed to becoming more focused and strategic as it transforms over the coming weeks and months.” The announcement comes days after Kim's husband Kanye West revealed that his fashion brand Yeezy had signed a 10-year deal with Gap.

Billionaire businessman and father of one of Nigeria's leading fashion designers, Folake Akindele-Coker, Chief Bode Akindele, has died. Late Chief Akindele died on Monday, June 29 at the age of 88. He was a foremost industrialist and the chairman of the Madandola Group of companies. He was until his death the Parakoyi of Ibadan land. He reportedly called his family members for Lunch on Sunday, June 28 before he passed away in the early hours of today.

Habeeb Lawal, the Assistant National Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association, took to Twitter to react to one of Lasisi's comedy videos. FG reopens schools for only graduating students, lifts ban on Interstate travels

The Federal government has extended the ease of lockdown beginning from tomorrow Tuesday, June 30 to July 29. Announcing this at the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID19, the National Co-ordinator, Dr Sani Aliyu, said the extension of the eased lockdown however comes with some modifications. Aliyu mentioned that the ban on interstate travel will be lifted as from July 1st. He said interstate travel must only be done outside the national curfew hours which is between 10pm and 4am. He said anyone without a facemask will not be allowed into any motor park and that commercial buses will only be allowed to operate on 50% capacity. For interstate travels, movement across state borders will be allowed only outside curfew times effective ffrom the firt of July'' he said With regards to Education, Aliyu said schools will reopen nationwide only for graduating classes which are Primary Six, JS3, and SS3. President Buhari appoints new Chief Personal Security Officer

President Buhari has approved the appointment of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Aliyu Abubakar Musa, as his Chief Personal Security Officer (CPSO). This was disclosed in a statement released by the Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu today June 29. According to the statement, DCP Musa who is an indigene of Niger State, last served at the Zone 5 of the Nigeria Police Force, Benin City, before his new appointment. Musa’s appointment follows the redeployment of his predecessor, Commissioner of Police (CP) Abdulkarim Dauda.

Barcelona football club of Spain have agreed to sell midfielder, Arthur to Juventus for €72 million (£66m) plus up to €10m in bonuses, the Catalan club confirmed Monday June 29, on their official website. According to the deal, Juventus player Miralem Pjanic is set to move to Barcelona but both players are obligated to finish the 2019-20 season at their current clubs. 21 year old Mum, Alexandra Jechorek was shocked when she realized during her 34-week scan, that her baby girl had a full head of hair before she was even born.  According to Alexandra, her baby's locks were so thick, they could be seen clearly on the scan screen while she was still in the womb.   Alexandra, of Dublin, Ireland, upon seeing her baby's full head of hair when born, said: ‘We’d already found out we were expecting a girl at the previous scan, so at 34 weeks, we were just excited to see how much she’d grown. ‘When the midwife turned the screen around, I honestly couldn’t believe my eyes. ‘There was this tiny little baby on the scan with a full head of hair.
