A Spanish man tied up his ex-wife with electric cables and forced her to watch him mutilate her new partner's penis with a samurai sword at their holiday home in Portugal. Carlos Sande Fidalgo and his former wife, Nuria Rodriguez Gonzalez, are said to have split in March 2020. However, he couldn't accept the end of the relationship, so he attacked her boyfriend after which he killed himself in a murder-suicide. Carlos Sande Fidalgo ended his life by throwing himself off a nearby bridge after murdering his ex-wife's boyfriend, Luis Miguel Fernandez. Police launched a manhunt when the woman, Nuria Rodriguez Gonzalez, managed to free herself after being made to witness her 53-year-old boyfriend's horrific murder. The search ended when detectives discovered the sole suspect had ended his own life. Suspected cultists arrested with human skulls in Cross River

Five suspected cultists have been arrested with human skulls in Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State. Cross River state commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC),  Danjuma Elisha said the suspects were apprehended following a raid on a compound in Ogoja area. He said;  “This is a case of suspected cultism, ritualists in Ogoja Local Government Area. They were found with all the items they used in their activities. “We raided the place because it is a compound. Eventually, four of them were found to be the people involved. So we are targeting them this time for the public to see." Elisha added that the suspects will be handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.

Police nabs woman who threw her newborn baby in a pit toilet

Police officers in Anambra state have arrested a woman who killed her newborn son by throwing him into a pit toilet. Franca Udokwu, 30, from Obuba Obofia Nkpor Community in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State, was arrested on August 22 by police operatives attached to Ogidi Division following a tip-off.  Upon interrogation, the suspect led police detectives to the pit toilet inside her house where she dumped her baby. The baby was recovered and taken to Iyi- Enu Mission Hospital for medical attention but was confirmed dead on arrival by a medical doctor. According to SP Haruna Mohammed, PPRO Anambra State Police Command, the baby's corpse has been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy and the case is under investigation after which the suspect will be charged to court for.

Uche Jombo has cautioned New York Post for the choice of words used in a post about Burna Boy. The foreign publication published an article about Burna Boy with the headline: "Beyoncé-endorsed Burna Boy makes Afrobeat go international." The headline angered a number of Nigerians and they took to Twitter to point out that Burna Boy was big before Beyonce but the headline makes it seem like Beyonce's endorsement is what made the Nigerian singer and his craft go international. Uche Jombo reacted by quote-tweeting New York Post's tweet and adding: "I love Beyonce as the next person but you are wrong with this ..Beyonce-endorsed Burna Boy "makes" a whole AFROBEAT go international such a think piece let down by the headline. Petrol tanker explosion in Imo state leaves one dead and three others injured (graphic photos)

One person was burnt to death and three others were injured after a petroleum tanker exploded at a filling station in Irete community along the Owerri-Onitsha Expressway in Owerri-West Local Government Area of Imo state today, August 14. Confirming the incident, the coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Imo state, Evans Ugoh, said after discharging its content at the filling station, the petroleum tanker was about reversing and maneuvering its way out of the premises when it was hit by a J5 commercial bus conveying pineapples on top speed. The bus lost control and rammed into the truck, leading to a heavy explosion. Mr. Ugoh confirmed that one of the occupants of the J5 commercial bus, a female, died on the spot while 3 other persons who sustained fatal injuries have been rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Loveday Etomi, the fiancé of the woman who was   crushed to death by a tanker in Ajah   only weeks to her wedding, has spoken out following her death. Immaculate Emife Okochu reportedly died at the scene of the accident, her fiancé said. He then narrated how he was in traffic when he got the call that she was involved in an accident and how he parked his car and ran on foot to the scene to find her "cold". Immaculate was a store manager at the Cold Stone Creamery Nigeria in Apapa. She was reportedly rushing to work when she took a bike to escape the Lagos traffic. Unfortunately, a truck rammed into the bike she was on, crushing her on Badore Road in Ajah around 11am on Wednesday, August 12.    Friend says she was first taken to a hospital in the area, and from there, she was referred to the General Hospital, Marina, where she was declared dead.  Mourning her, her fiance expressed his love for her and said no one could ever replace her.

NBC's N5m fine on radio station over Mailafia’s ‘Boko Haram’ interview is illegal - Falana

Human Rights activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana has stated that the N5 million fine imposed by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) on Nigeria Info 99.3 over Obadiah Mailafia's comment of a northern governor is one of the commanders of Boko Haram, is illegal.  NBC which imposed the fine on the radio station has alleged that Mailafia's comment in the interview, violated provisions in the amended sixth edition of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code.  However reacting to this, Falana averred that the amended code under which the radio was fined was yet to come into force. He further disclosed that the investigation being conducted into Dr. Obadiah’s interview by the State Security Service has not been concluded.  Falana said;  “The chairman of the NBC board disclosed that the amendment of the code authorising the payment of the fine of N5 million was not approved by the board. That means that the amendment of the code has not come into force.

Paris Saint-Germain is reportedly lining up a shock move for Manchester United's on-loan star Odion Ighalo. The French giants have identified the 31-year-old Nigerian striker as a replacement for Edinson Cavani after the 33-year-old Uruguayan left the club following the end of his contract last month. Ighalo on loan from Shanghai Shenhu recently extended his loan deal to stay at United until January, after scoring five times for the club. According to the French publication, Foot Mercato, PSG, has made contact with Ighalo's representatives about a possible transfer to replace Edinson Cavani despite splashing out £52million to sign Mauro Icardi on a permanent basis earlier this summer.

The Department of State Services (DSS) on Friday August 14 accused former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr Obadiah Mailafiya of playing to the gallery with his comment of a Northern Governor being one of Boko Haram's Commander.  The DSS in a statement released by its spokesperson Dr Peter Afunanya, recalled how it warned Nigerians of desperate efforts by some notable personalities to use their exalted positions to cause a total breakdown of law and order. Ogun State Government reopens churches and mosques; cinemas and event centers to remain closed

The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has approved the reopening of worship centers in the state. Churches, Mosques and other places of worship in the state have been closed since March this year as part of measures to contain the spread of Coronavirus in the state. In a statement released on Friday, August 14, the governor said he took the decision after thorough deliberation, consideration, and resolution with stakeholders. He also disclosed that the decision to lift the weekend's lockdown was due to the opening of worship centers for activities. “After thorough deliberation, consideration, and resolution, we decided to reopen the worship centers with effect from Friday 14th August 2020 as indicated in my last address. This decision was made in line with an agreement reached by the committee set up to develop guidelines for the reopening of the religious centers. Bola Aseyan, a medical doctor who accused popular Twitter user Dr Olufunmilayo of rape, has insisted that he is guilty and she released "receipts". Dr Olufunmilayo had released a rebuttal after Dr Bola Aseyan accused him of rape. In his statement, he said he had consensual sex with Dr Bola twice after they met on Twitter in 2019.  Narrating how the sex happened, Olufunmilyo said he and Dr Bola met in person after her visa application came through and she moved to the UK. He said they drank red wine and later had sex. Olufunmilayo said Bola later sent him a voice note saying she did not give consent to the sex and demanded an "apology" which Dr Olufunmilayo said felt awkward because "they both took alcohol and sex happened". But Bola is stating that this isn't the case. She alleging that he raped her without a condom. 7 members of a family die of food poisoning in Zamfara, husband runs mad

A food poisoning incident at  Auki village of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State has left 7 members of the same family, consisting of five children and two housewives dead.  It was further learned that the husband of the late women, Mallam Hassan lawali also developed a psychiatric disorder after eating the food prepared with corn on Tuesday night.  An eyewitness told Nigerian Tribune;  “After they ate the food, they started to develop stomach pains, three died instantly while four persons were taken to General Hospital, Bungudu where they were also pronounced dead”. While the Doctor on duty confirmed that the members of the family died of food poisoning, it was also gathered that Mallam Hassan could neither speak nor eat. 

NCAA approves reopening of Asaba Airport for operations

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has approved the re-opening of the Asaba International Airport in Delta State for commercial operations. This came after some officials of the agency inspected the airport last week, to ascertain the level of preparedness for its re-opening pursuant to the Federal Government’s lifting of the ban on local air travel. According to the NCAA, the Asaba International Airport had satisfactorily fulfilled the requirements of the COVID-19 restart guidelines and protocols and therefore had been granted the authorization to resume normal operations.

NJC recommends 22 judges to Buhari for appointment to Supreme Court and others

The National Judicial Council has recommended the appointment of more judges for the Supreme Court and other courts following its second virtual meeting held on August 11 and 12, 2020. NJC's Director of Information, Mr. Soji Oye said the council presided by its chairman who is also the Chief Justice of Nigeria Tanko Muhammad, recommended a total of 22 judicial officers across various courts including the Supreme Court, following a steady decline in the number of its justices in the last two years. A 32-year-old man identified as Ahmad Aliyu has been rescued by men of the Kano state police command after he was locked up in a room by his father and stepmother for seven years in Farawa Babban Layi, Mariri Quarters in Kumbotso Local Government Area of the State. The police came to Aliyu's rescue after a video showing his sad state went viral. Aliyu looked emaciated and dehydrated in the viral video. He has spent days without food and water and reportedly drank his own urine whenever he was tasty. A concerned neighbor alerted the police in Farawa and members of a non-governmental organization, Human Rights Network. According to reports, Ahmad was “imprisoned” by his father and stepmother on the suspicion that he had started smoking and getting involved in drug consumption. The police arrested his father and stepmum and took away their victim. An Edo Senior Special Assistant from Urhonigbe Southward 8, Faith Obasuyi has resigned from Governor Godwin Obaseki's government ahead of the governorship election scheduled to hold in the state in September.  In her resignation letter which was sent in on Friday, August 14, Obasuyi alleged that recent activities of Obaseki's administration will not lead to the actualization of development and the promotion of woman and girl-child interest. It read;    "I’m, therefore, not persuaded that the recent activities of the Gov Obaseki administration can lead me to achieve these interests especially when the governor has now abandoned the APC on whose back he rode to power. ‘This decision is borne out of my desire to join forces with our great party, the APC to ensure the emergence of a true Orhionmwon man as governor come September 19th, 2020.” The vice-chairman of Orhionmwon Local Government Area, Hon Christian Iweka has also dumped the Peoples Democratic Party
